If you are making a remake of a cult game, you should reproduce the game, if not completely, which would be ideal, then at least preserve its spirit. Why? "Scarface" 1932. and De Palma’s film is quite different, “Bad Lieutenant” with Cage and Keitel are completely different, “12 Angry Men” and “12” by Mikhalkov are also different and all these films are good in their own way. In order to be a worthy work, a remake does not necessarily have to be a literal quotation of the original. Let’s wait for the release and then we’ll attack the game with all the proletarian fury.

I completely disagree. The above examples of remakes sometimes completely changed the meaning of the original films. The idea, in some cases, changed almost to the opposite

As a fan of the first part, for whom the music in the opening video brings a meager tear of nostalgia to your eyes, it’s a knife to the heart to look at the new characters of the main characters

I’ll say right away that I’m not imposing my subjective opinion as a fan of the first part. All.
In my opinion it turned out bad. The problem is not the changed faces or the absence of that same music from the chase through the gates. No. I don’t like these details, but I understand that they can easily be attributed to the grumbling of the olds. The problem is in the philosophy of the remake itself. The original game followed the "we’re trying for realism" rule throughout. The gameplay (be it fines, the physics of the cars, not so much action and its sluggishness), the story (a mundane crime drama about a man who got into trouble that was clearly not for him, but which he could not avoid) and even in the general color scheme, not colorful, but also not obsessively gray and “noir”, but quite everyday. It seems to me that this allowed the game not to get lost among other projects and not become an unsuccessful “GTA clone”.

Yes, a lot was done crookedly, playing it was sometimes painful. It’s clear that the remake was supposed to be a rethinking; doing everything exactly as it was is stupid.

How cool it would be to “tweak” realistic mechanics and deepen the story. In short, keep the general philosophy, but make the game modern, original and convenient.

And after all, conversations about philosophy are not empty words, the father of the Mafia, Vavra, is still trying to adhere to it, making a realistic RPG about the Middle Ages.

But what do we ultimately see in the remake?? Chasing fashion, scripts, action, action, action. A story about a boy who is striving for success (at least for now it seems so), and this story was already in Mafia 2 and here it is again. Beautiful picture (although very sharp in my opinion), but an absolutely secondary game. A clone of either Uncharted, or the third part, or a bunch of other driving blockbusters..

And I don’t understand, because the https://miami-jackpots-casino.co.uk/ old ones won’t appreciate it, but for a new audience it would be possible to make a new part, why does it need a remake??
At the same time, I think the game has a great chance to succeed, after all, the setting is rare, and the release date is still convenient.

“Tank” in a police chase completely nullified the already not very high hopes for a remake. Why do it so radically in a “fashionable, youthful” style?. Red barrels look like just flowers.

No matter how much I look at Paulie, he always reminds me of an old ventriloquist’s dummy.

And so, I agree with Vanya. Very big concerns.

With such a combat system and simplified vehicle physics and with such changed and clearly degraded characters, the game is clearly worse than it could have been if it had been closer to the original. It’s a pity(((

Considering that in the first part the plot and its presentation ruled the show, a “remake” looms quite risky. Thanks for the preview.

Well, because the enemy “family” declared a hunt for him, which means indirectly, but Salieri ruined this taxi driver’s life. If his car gets broken even once a week, Tommy will simply go broke. And Salieri sees a way out – the guy is good, calm, gives him a chance to prove himself, and Tommy proves that the don was not mistaken.

…and I liked it. I watched the walkthrough of those 5 chapters on YouTube, and… actually not bad. I don’t think that Mr. Loev’s fears will come true. The city is VERY similar to its old self, the dialogues are also atmospheric. All sorts of small details, such as shooting off the tires on a car BEFORE a shootout at a gas station so that the enemy cannot get far, are in place. There is more shooting – yes. But she herself became more fleeting.
In general, you have to try it yourself. I got the impression that the “hangars” were quite respectful of the original source (more respectful than the developers of Resident Ivl 3 for sure), and it’s too early to sound the alarm.
All the best.

You know, judging by the preview and the passage of 5 chapters, everything looks quite twofold.
As they say there are two chairs. Old people are sitting on one, their sons and grandchildren are sitting on the other. And I think the debate about whether the changes in the remake benefit the game or not can go on forever.

The old people will say: "-The remake must respect the spirit of that very game, it must be the same Mafia that I once played in my youth, but stuffed with modern technologies"

And their children "But the Mafia is boring. You can’t pew-pew and bang-bang in it."

Both of these sides will be partly right.

And no matter how much I love vanilla Mafia, I admit that this game simply cannot be released with the mechanics that it has now. People who haven’t seen the original will get bored with it pretty quickly.

Personally, I have no complaints about these explosions, the arcade physics of the cars from Mafia 3, the shooting (well, almost, more on that a little later).
I don’t like how the characters have changed, not in terms of appearance, because that’s a matter of taste, but in terms of their character. And Mafia is still a game about people. As Vanya noted in his preview (and I watched it after completing it), it also seemed to me that the emphasis was shifted somewhere in the wrong place.

It’s too dashing for Tommy to rush into battle, but he’s just a taxi driver. Returning to Mafia 3, I will say that I like the way it feels like shooting. However, Tommy is not Lincoln from Vietnam, he definitely shouldn’t be so smart with a weapon..

In general, this demagoguery can be continued endlessly. So I’ll wait until the end of September and see what happens in the end.

I don’t like the facial expressions, while they are silent everything is fine, they start talking – the uncanny valley slips through.

Ivan, what about the city in the preview build?? You can move freely and, when the timer is not ticking, stop by, for example, to look at the procurator’s villa, or at some point they will write that you can’t go there, the road is closed, etc.d.? Not that it’s important (you can’t play it yet anyway), but I’m just curious if the developers put restrictions on this.

PS: As a representative of the “old guard”, I quite like the remake. Just to understand: I’ve already played the original so much that nothing in it surprises me anymore. All possibilities have been explored, all secrets are known. That’s why I don’t really need a purely graphic reskin. It’s much more interesting to look at a story told from a different angle and with different accents. And also rediscover a familiar world, where something new can await you at every turn. For example, I liked that while transporting passengers, the player is gradually immersed in the world, told about Prohibition and the Great Depression. In the original, these trips were empty, they had a practical value – to introduce you to the map, and that’s all. Here you can feel attempts to fill the void, there are direct and indirect references to future events.

Not so much for old players, but for new ones, and for active ones, for whom the first and even the second game seem like a terrible tedium.
Something like this happened with a friend of mine, who, having played enough of GTA Vice City, called the Mafia crap, because the cars are slow and the shooting is boring, and they don’t give you any fun at all (well, when you decided to turn on the codes and arrange armageddon on one of the streets).
Having tried the game myself, I realized it’s not the same. I played from a friend’s computer, because on my stump with terrible friezes, God knows how I played “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and there was already a slideshow there that you could shoot yourself. Still, I played a little and just started to get into the game (especially after the race!), my friend moved to another city and the mafia never touched my hands again.
Thanks to the history of the series + a number of other sources, I was inspired by the plot and characters of the game, but all hands did not get around to it, then study, then a new release, and now work.
I was hoping to get to know Mafia 1 through the remake, but it’s easier to get the original and somehow run it before getting acquainted with the new version. Yes, it looks great, it will probably even play without the hell it was like with M3, but it’s trivial that the ingredients at the base are not the same, which will make the taste and sensations completely different.
Sorry, very sorry.

A story about a boy who is striving for success (at least for now it seems so), and this story was already in Mafia 2 and here it is again.
